Pine Mountain Ridge, deep in the Ventura County backcountry, is threatened by logging and habitat clearance.
The Forest Service intends to use loopholes to avoid preparing an environmental assessment for the massive project stretching 6 miles along the prominent peaks. Long important to Chumash groups, the area’s stands of old-growth forests and chaparral, and abundant wildlife make it a cherished recreation destination and have qualified over one-third of the project area as proposed wilderness.
